Church News: Back to Normal

Back to Usual Worship Schedule

It’s hard to believe that summer is over and fall is around the corner!  Time sure flies!

Regular Schedule Resumes
Beginning this weekend, our worship schedule is back to normal:  7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, 9:45 a.m. Sunday School.  Write yourself a note and tape it to your bathroom mirror (that’s what I do to remember!).  See you in worship!

New Sermon Series Begins
Beginning this weekend, Pastor John will begin a sermon series called “Taste and See” focusing on enriching our experience of Holy Communion.  We tend to see Communion as a somber memoriail meal – and of course, sometimes (especially during Lent), that is appropriate.  But much of Christendom calls Communion “The Eucharist,” that implies joy and celebration.  During this series, Pastor John will preach on other stories and texts that broaden and deepen our experience of Communion.  Naturally, it only makes sense to offer The Eucharist at each service during the series.  Come “taste and see the goodness of the Lord!”

Worship Order on Sundays Adjusted for the Series
In order to focus our worship toward Holy Communion, the order of our worship services will be adjusted somewhat.  Basically, the sermon will come earlier in the service, and other portions (offering an prayers) will follow as our response to hearing the Word.  The purpose is to elevate the importance of sharing in the sacrament.  This actually is the recommended worship order outlined in the front of our hymnal.  We’re going to give it a try during this series.  It’s good to mix it up from time to time so we don’t fall into a rut!

Scout House Interior Repairs
On Saturday, Sept. 8 and 15, a volunteer mission team from First United Methodist Church of Kissimmee will be on our campus to renovate the interior of the Scout House that was damaged by water due to the hurricane.  After the repairs, new carpet will be laid.  The cost for all this renovation is being covered by offerings from other congregations (around $3,000).  It is good to be part of a “connectional” denomination where sisters and brothers from other congregations show the love of Jesus – to us!  Hopefully one day, we can return the gesture!

Eagle Scout Ceremony
We are invited to attend the Eagle Award Ceremony for Quintin Lee Davis of our Troop.  This will take place at North Brevard Shrine Club (545 N. Washington Ave.), Saturday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.  We are proud of the exceptional young men in our Troop!  Congratulations, Quintin!

Offering Counters Needed
Following the 11:00 a.m. service every week, two (non-related) persons from our congregation count our offering and prepare it for deposit.  We are in need of a few more folks to be trained to do this – on a rotation so that no one is asked to do it more than once per month.  Contact Bill Haas or Julie Harrison if you are interested.

Mullet Festival Is Upon Us!
In just one month, we will be in FULL MULLET FESTIVAL MODE!   We need everyone’s participation.  Plan to volunteer by contacting Julie Harrison, and pass the word to those you know to come and join us for the day.  The Kick Off Banquet is Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Indian River Preserve Country Club.  Cost per ticket is $25.  Buy your tickets through the church office.  Some Mullet festival committee members are also selling them.

Worship Schedule Adjustments around the Mullet Festival
There will be NO Saturday worship on Sept. 25 (we will all be at the Kick Off Banquet), and NO Saturday worship on Oct. 6 (the day of the Festival).  On the day after the Festival (Sunday, Oct. 7), the 8:30 a.m. service will be cancelled.  We all attend the 11:00 a.m. service that day (so we can all “sleep in” a little bit – we’ll need it!).  There is no breakfast or combined service with the Baptists this year.

See you in worship!

Pastor John
